About the club

Gor Mahia FC, known as K'Ogalo, is Kenya's most successful football club by trophy count: 21 top-flight titles, and the only Kenyan side to have won a CAF continental trophy (the 1987 African Cup Winners' Cup). Based in Nairobi but spiritually rooted in the Luo heartland around Lake Victoria, the club nicknamed 'The Government' (Sirkal) functions as a Luo cultural institution as much as a football team.

Founded by A merger of Luo Union and Luo Stars — named after Gor Mahia, a Luo spiritual figure and rainmaker from Migori.

help Frequently Asked Questions

How many KPL titles has Gor Mahia won? add
Gor Mahia have won 21 Kenyan top-flight titles — the most in Kenyan football history and ahead of AFC Leopards (13). Their most recent title is the 2022–23 FKF Premier League season, 2 points clear of Tusker.
Where does Gor Mahia play? add
Gor Mahia play their home matches primarily at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani, Nairobi — capacity 60,000, the largest stadium in East Africa. They also use Nyayo National Stadium (30,000) in central Nairobi for select fixtures. The club's true spiritual home, however, is anywhere the Luo community gathers in East Africa.
Has Gor Mahia won the CAF Champions League? add
No — Gor's best CAF Champions League run in the modern era was a group-stage appearance in 2014–15. However, Gor won the African Cup Winners' Cup in 1987 (beating Espérance Tunis), making them the only Kenyan club ever to win a CAF continental trophy.
Who are Gor Mahia's rivals? add
AFC Leopards are Gor's defining rival — the Mashemeji Derby is the biggest football fixture in East Africa. The rivalry is tribal-cultural (Luo vs Luhya) as much as it is footballing, and has been continuously contested since 1968. Gor leads the all-time head-to-head but matches are routinely close.
Why is Gor Mahia called K'Ogalo? add
'K'Ogalo' — 'the people of Ogalo' in Dholuo — refers to the Luo community's ancestral lineage. Gor Mahia himself was a Luo spiritual figure and rainmaker from Migori, after whom the club is named. The K'Ogalo nickname captures the club's identity as a Luo cultural institution, not only a football club.
Who owns Gor Mahia? add
Gor Mahia is community-owned — a members-and-fans model with an elected chairman (currently Ambrose Rachier). The club is one of the oldest continuously-run community-owned sports institutions in East Africa. There is no single-owner private structure, which the club's fanbase has defended in multiple governance debates over the past decade.
How much do Gor Mahia players earn? add
Gor Mahia player salaries are modest by African-continent standards — typically KES 80,000–250,000 per month (roughly US $600–1,900) for senior first-team regulars, with top earners above that. These are competitive for the KPL but well below the PSL and GPL. Many Gor players therefore use the club as a stepping-stone to better-paying Tanzanian or North African clubs.
What's the latest Gor Mahia news? add
For live news, check the official Gor Mahia FC website (gormahiafc.co.ke) and the club's verified Twitter/X handle. The 2025–26 FKF Premier League season is mid-campaign; K'Ogalo remain in title contention and CAF Champions League group-stage preparation. The Kenyan-football press cycle updates the club daily during the season.
Where is Gor Mahia in the standings? add
Gor Mahia are currently in the top three of the 2025–26 FKF Premier League table, consistent with their recent multi-season title challenges. For the live standings table, check the FKF-PL fixtures page or the official Gor Mahia website. The champion qualifies for the CAF Champions League preliminary round.
