Historical Legacy

The KPL was founded in 1963 as the Kenyan Football Federation League, one year before Kenyan independence. Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards have dominated across six decades; between them they hold 34 of the 61 titles ever awarded. Tusker FC emerged as a third force in the 2000s and 2010s. The 2020s have seen Kenya Police FC rise into the title conversation, a reflection of the league's shift towards institutionally-backed clubs with steady budgets.
