About the club

Plateau United FC is the Jos-based Middle Belt club that won the 2016–17 NPFL title under Kennedy Boboye. The championship remains the Plateau State capital's first and only Nigerian league crown. Since then the club has built a reputation for a physical, defensively organised style, winning the 2022 NPFL Super Cup and qualifying for CAF continental competition. Plateau United is owned by the Plateau State Government and plays home matches at the 20,000-capacity New Jos Stadium in Rwang Pam. The 'Peace Boys' nickname reflects football's role in Jos as a civic unifier across the city's long history of inter-ethnic tension.

Founded by Benue-Plateau State Government, later reorganised under Plateau State after the 1976 state creation.

help Frequently Asked Questions

How many NPFL titles has Plateau United won? add
Plateau United have won the NPFL once — the 2016–17 season, under head coach Kennedy Boboye. The title remains Plateau State's first and only Nigerian league crown. The club has also won the 2022 NPFL Super Cup, beating Rivers United 1–0 at the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
Where does Plateau United play? add
Plateau United play at the New Jos Stadium in the Rwang Pam area of Jos, capacity 20,000. The ground is Plateau State's flagship football venue and was re-grassed in 2017 ahead of the club's CAF Champions League preliminary-round debut. Altitude is publicly cited as a matchday factor — Jos sits above 1,200 metres.
Who owns Plateau United? add
Plateau United is owned by the Plateau State Government. Funding and senior board appointments come from the state through the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Privatisation has been raised in Plateau State Assembly debates since 2019 but not executed; the state-ownership model remains the club's identity in Jos.
Who are Plateau United's rivals? add
Kano Pillars are Plateau United's main NPFL rivals — a fixture shaped by overlapping title-era peaks and by Middle Belt–Hausa regional undertones. The match regularly draws 15,000+ crowds when hosted at either the New Jos Stadium or the Sani Abacha Stadium. Within Plateau State, the club also contests lower-tier derbies with Mighty Jets and Zuma Rocks.
What does 'Peace Boys' mean? add
'Peace Boys' is the club's supporter nickname and ties to Jos's civic history: the city has lived through recurrent inter-ethnic and religious tension over the past two decades, and football has often been framed locally as a unifying force. The Peace Boys identity casts the club as a cross-community banner for a peaceful Plateau.
Has Plateau United played in the CAF Champions League? add
Yes — Plateau United qualified for the CAF Champions League preliminary round in 2017–18 on the back of their NPFL title. They lost on aggregate to Tunisia's Étoile du Sahel and dropped into the CAF Confederation Cup group stage. It remains the club's only continental campaign to date.
How much do Plateau United players earn? add
Plateau United player salaries sit in the ₦300,000–₦1,500,000 per month range for the senior squad, with top earners around the upper band when state-backed bonuses are included. These are mid-tier NPFL figures, comparable to other state-owned NPFL clubs and below the leading privately owned and Niger Delta sides.
