About the club

Kano Pillars FC is the leading football club of Nigeria's ancient northern trading city: four-time NPFL champions, three-time CAF Champions League group-stage finishers, and the side that produced Ahmed Musa before he went on to become Nigeria's most-capped men's footballer. Their chant 'Sai Masu Gida' (Hausa for 'The Owners of the House') works as a cultural identity in Kano as much as a football slogan, backed by one of the loudest home supports in African football.

Founded by Kano State Government, as the state's flagship professional football side.

help Frequently Asked Questions

How many NPFL titles has Kano Pillars won? add
Kano Pillars have won the NPFL four times — 2003–04, 2007–08, 2011–12 and 2013–14 — making them the most successful northern Nigerian club in the league's modern era. They have also won two Federation Cups (2014, 2015) and the 2014 NPFL Super 4.
Where do Kano Pillars play? add
Kano Pillars play at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano, capacity 16,000. The ground is the flagship sports venue of Kano State and also hosts Super Eagles qualifying matches. A renovation programme funded by the Kano State Government was announced in 2024.
Who owns Kano Pillars? add
Kano Pillars is owned by the Kano State Government. It is one of the last remaining state-owned NPFL clubs; privatisation has been publicly discussed multiple times but never executed, with club-board members arguing that Pillars' community ownership model is central to its identity in northern Nigeria.
What does 'Sai Masu Gida' mean? add
'Sai Masu Gida' is Hausa for 'Only the Owners of the House' — the club's chant and identity slogan. It reflects Pillars' status as the home side of Kano, northern Nigeria's largest city, and the loud Hausa-language support that fills the Sani Abacha Stadium on matchdays.
Has Kano Pillars won the CAF Champions League? add
No. Pillars have qualified for the CAF Champions League group stage three times (2009, 2014, 2015) but never progressed beyond the group stage. Their best individual African night was a 2–1 home win over Al-Hilal Omdurman in 2009 — the first CAF Champions League group-stage home win for a northern Nigerian club.
Did Ahmed Musa start at Kano Pillars? add
Yes — Ahmed Musa was an NPFL teenager at Kano Pillars in 2009–2010, scoring 18 goals in 24 senior appearances before his move to Dutch side VVV-Venlo. He returned as a player-mentor in 2024, 14 years after leaving Kano for Europe.
How much do Kano Pillars players earn? add
Kano Pillars player salaries sit in the ₦300,000–₦1,500,000 per month range for the senior squad, with top earners (including Ahmed Musa on his player-mentor deal) in a different bracket structured around appearance bonuses and community commitments. These are mid-tier NPFL figures.
