About the club

Remo Stars FC is the Ikenne-based Ogun State club widely discussed in Nigerian football as a model for privately run NPFL sides. Founded in 1976 and restructured under businessman Kunle Soname in 2015, the club finished 2021–22 runners-up and has returned top-six finishes every season since. Remo Stars opened a purpose-built 5,000-capacity ground in 2022, one of the first privately financed stadiums in Nigerian club football. The club has yet to win the NPFL but has developed a reputation for a disciplined academy pipeline and an attractive passing style. Private ownership sets Remo Stars apart from the state-owned clubs that dominate the NPFL.

Founded by A group of Remo-land football enthusiasts, later restructured and privately acquired by businessman Kunle Soname in 2015.

help Frequently Asked Questions

How many NPFL titles has Remo Stars won? add
Remo Stars have not yet won the NPFL. The club's best league finish was runners-up in 2021–22, followed by top-four finishes in 2022–23 and 2023–24. Remo Stars won the Nigerian National League in 2018–19 to secure promotion to the NPFL, where they have finished in the top half of the table every season since.
Where does Remo Stars play? add
Remo Stars play at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, capacity 5,000. The ground opened in 2022 and is widely reported as the first purpose-built club stadium financed entirely by private Nigerian ownership. It sits within the Remo Stars football academy complex, roughly an hour's drive from Lagos.
Who owns Remo Stars? add
Remo Stars is privately owned by Nigerian businessman Kunle Soname, founder of the Bet9ja betting company. Soname acquired and restructured the club in 2015 and also owns Portuguese side Boavista and Nigerian side Sporting Lagos. Remo Stars is one of the few fully privately owned clubs in the NPFL, in contrast with the state-government ownership model that dominates the league.
Who are Remo Stars' rivals? add
Shooting Stars of Ibadan are Remo Stars' closest NPFL rivals — the two South-West clubs sit 90 kilometres apart and have contested regular NPFL fixtures since Shooting Stars' 2022 return to the top flight. The rivalry is often described locally as the Ogun–Oyo or South-West Derby; it draws strong away support in both directions.
What does 'Sky Blue Stars' mean? add
'Sky Blue Stars' is the club's supporter nickname and references the sky-blue playing kit adopted in the 2015 rebranding under chairman Kunle Soname. Before the rebrand, the club played in various colours across its earlier community and semi-professional eras. The sky-blue identity is now tied to the Ikenne academy and the Soname-era professional setup.
Has Remo Stars played in the CAF Champions League? add
No. Remo Stars qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup group stage in 2022–23 on the back of their NPFL runners-up finish — their first-ever African campaign. The club has yet to qualify for the CAF Champions League. Group-stage fixtures against Orlando Pirates and USM Alger marked the club's continental introduction.
How much do Remo Stars players earn? add
Remo Stars player salaries sit in the ₦400,000–₦1,800,000 per month range for the senior squad, with top earners towards the upper band of NPFL pay thanks to the private Bet9ja-backed ownership. Salaries are publicly reported as among the most reliably paid in the league, with fewer public disputes than at state-owned NPFL clubs.
